HYDERABAD: Endorsing the party secretary K. Narayana’s decision to go on an indefinite fast from October 26, the CPI said that the party proposed to unite people for a struggle against “a sort of parallel administration run by factionists” who were occupying Government lands.
The CPI State secretariat which discussed the matter on Saturday expressed concern over the rampant occupation of Government lands by “land mafias” through forged documents. The occupied lands were being sold to gullible poor who were being forced to vacate the place by “rowdy gangs.”
The party attributed this to the reluctance of the Government to constitute a land commission in line with the recommendations made by the Koneru Ranga Rao land committee.
Though the Government had nominated three commissioners for implementation of the land panel’s recommendations, they were yet to be given powers. The meeting discussed the issue of paying MSP for paddy on a par with wheat and expressed satisfaction that the political parties and farmers’ bodies had come on a single platform. The party pointed out subsidies were less than two per cent in India.
