MADAKASIRA: Agriculture polytechnics will be set up in all districts by the year-end, Minister for Agriculture N. Raghuveera Reddy said here on Monday. The colleges were being set up as part of the government’s commitment to serve the farming community, particularly to improve the on-farm extension work better, he said. Speaking after inaugurating an Agriculture Polytechnic here, he stated that such institutions had been already established in 17 districts by Acharya N.G. Ranga Agriculture University and they would be set up soon in the remaining five districts. He said Andhra Pradesh was the first State in the country to have separate universities for agriculture, horticulture and veterinary sciences. He stated that the government would supply high-yielding K-6 variety of groundnut seed to farmers from the next kharif.Hindupur Member of Parliament D. Nizamuddin, Member of Legislative Council G. Thippeswamy, Vice-Chancellor of ANGRAU S. Raghuvardhan Reddy, Dean Agriculture M. Sudarshan Reddy, Director of Research P. Raghava Reddy, Registrar D. Jagannatha Raju, Associate Director C. Subbi Reddy and others participated. Students with SSC qualification would be admitted into the two-year diploma course on merit basis and trained in agriculture, animal husbandry, sericulture and other related subjects.
