Rs. 30,000 to be given to family of workers who die while on duty Chitradurga: Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Oscar Fernandes has said that from November 1 the Union Government will introduce a pension scheme for poor people aged above 60. Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, he said the Government had introduced an insurance scheme, “Aam Admi Bima Yojana”, for the unorganised sector, which comprises 93 per cent of the labour force in the country. Under the scheme launched on April 1, 2007, Rs. 30,000 would be given to the family of any worker who died in a work-related accident. Mr. Fernandes said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was making efforts to ensure the economic stability of people in rural areas. The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, which was introduced in 200 districts of the country and later extended to 320 districts, had now been introduced throughout the country. Empowerment“The Government wants to ensure the economic empowerment of rural people through the scheme,” he said. Asked whether the Congress would join hands with the Janata Dal (Secular) to form a Government in the State, he said the decision would be taken by the party high command. Prithviraj Chavan had been designated as party affairs in-charge of Karnataka, he said, and added that he would be the right person to answer such queries. Earlier, he appealed to party workers to make people aware of schemes initiated by the Government. G.H. Tippareddy, MLA, and Saleem Ahmed, MLC, were present.
