KARUR: Students and staff of the Government Music School, Karur, celebrated the “Kalaimagal Vizha” on the occasion of the Saraswathi Puja. Certificates were distributed to candidates who successfully completed the various courses being offered at the school.
Presiding over the function, Assistant Director, Art and Culture, R. Gunasekaran, exhorted the students to hone their skills even after leaving the school.
Good artistes were never tired of learning and practicing the art form they came to know, he pointed out.
Land allotted
Mr. Gunasekaran said that the district administration had graciously allotted half an acre land near the up coming Stadium complex in the Thanthonrimalai area for constructing a building to house the Government Music School.
He thanked the District Collector T.N. Venkatesh for taking efforts to identify and allot a suitable place for the school.
Once enough funds were mobilized, the Government Music School would shift to the new location, Mr. Gunasekaran added.
He distributed certificates to those who successfully completed the kuralisai, nagaswaram, thavil, Thevaram, Bharatanatyam courses that were being offered at the school.
Headmistress Ramani, social activists Deepam U. Shankar and Srinivasan and others participated in the function.
