A chance to fly high

Staff Reporter

25 students of a government school were taken on their first air journey.

Living a dream: Students and staff of the school at the airport in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: Their dreams took wings, literally. And the students of the Travel and Tourism Club of the Government City Vocational Higher Secondary School, near PMG junction here, got a rare chance to board a flight on Friday.

The three-day study tour was to historic places in and around Ernakulam and Thrissur. For all the 25 students who went for the study tour, it was their first air journey. So, the trip from Thiruvananthapuram, albeit short, turned out to be an unforgettable experience.

Discounted fare

Six teachers led by Principal C.T. Marykutty accompanied the students. The airline, Deccan, responded to the request of the school authorities to extend discounted fare to the students.

“Students from private institutions proceeding for study tours in flights are not rare. But, students from government schools rarely get the opportunity,” says T.A. Sissil, the coordinator of the club and Visakh V.S., a faculty member.

The team visited Synagogue, Dutch Palace, St. Thomas Church and Hill Palace Museum, Tripunithara, before returning to the capital on Sunday by train.

Travel and Tourism is taught in 25 VHSE schools in the State and the students from the city school are the first ones to fly for a study tour.
