Molakalmur received highest rainfall of 146 mm Victims demand immediate disbursal of compensation Chitradurga: Heavy rainfall in the district has claimed two lives in the past five days. Damage to property and death of livestock have also been reported. Two people have been injured in a house collapse. According to a preliminary assessment, eight houses in Chitradurga city have been destroyed, and 563 houses in the district have been partially damaged. According to sources in the Deputy Commissioner’s office, 38 head of cattle have died and crops worth several lakh rupees have been destroyed.The sources said that five hectares of banana plantation and one hectare of onion crop in Hiriyur taluk were destroyed. Groundnut and maize crop on 15 hectares of land in Molakalmur taluk also suffered heavy damage. Check-dams, roads and bunds in several parts of the district were affected. According to reports, Molakalmur received the highest rainfall of 146 mm and Hiriyur received 130.4 mm. Chitradurga city recorded 67.8 mm of rain on Saturday. Officials said information on further damage caused would be gathered in the next two days. Tahsildars and officials of the Revenue Department were visiting rain-ravaged areas to review the situation, they said.
