ANANTAPUR: District Collector N. Sridhar has directed the Revenue Divisional Officers in the district to speed up acquisition of land for the second phase of Indiramma housing scheme. At a review meeting with the heads of departments held here on Tuesday he asked them to complete acquisition of land under land purchase and land acquisition schemes. He stated that district was topping the State in the construction of Indiramma houses in the first phase and asked the officials to keep it ahead in the second phase too. Of the 2.2 lakh houses sanctioned in the second phase, possession certificates were ready for distribution to about 1.2 lakh beneficiaries. About 70,000 beneficiaries required allotment of house sites. There was no dearth of funds for land acquisition for the Indiramma scheme, the Collector said. Joint Collector T. Chiranjeevulu explained that 555 acres government land was ready for allotment as house sites for the second phase and permission was given to purchase about 50 per cent of the remaining 1,879 acres required from private persons. Farmers concerned were being talked to for acquisition of the remaining land. The Collector instructed the RDOs to allot the available land to the proportionate beneficiaries first and the second phase of Indiramma house must be grounded in the second fortnight of November. He also pointed out that construction of houses in urban areas was only 15 per cent even in the first phase and he told the officials concerned to motivate the beneficiaries to take up construction of houses. District Revenue Officer M. Sudarshan Reddy, RDOs Gangadhar Reddy, G. Venkatesham and S.V. Nageswara Rao, District Manager of Housing N. Ramachandra Reddyand others participated.
