Vet doctors seek pay revision

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veterinary doctors in State government service are on the warpath demanding pay revision, better promotion prospects and allowances.

In a joint memorandum submitted to Minister for Animal Husbandry C. Divakaran, the Indian Veterinary Association, Kerala Veterinary Surgeons’ Service Association and the Animal Husbandry Officers Association, Kerala, sought pay parity with doctors in the Health Department.

Reminding the government that veterinary doctors in Kerala had a major influence on the rural economy, it said they had a key role in food security and public health also.

“Apart from hospital duties, we are also involved in Central and State sponsored schemes, public health activities and disease prevention campaigns. Most of us are deprived of even the weekly off,” the memorandum said.

The associations alleged that the government had failed to honour its commitment to revise the salary and service conditions of veterinary doctors.
