Held for murder

CHENNAI: A 45-year-old man was allegedly killed by a 20-year-old youth in a mansion on Bells Road, Triplicane, on Sunday night.

Police said Jimma Khan (45) of Illayankudi in Sivaganga district had been the mansion manager for the last eight months.

The youth whose name was given as Veerendra Kumar of Cuddapah, Andhra Pradesh, was staying in a room in the mansion for about three months He was in the city to obtain a passport, police said.

On Sunday evening, when Kumar and Khan were consuming liquor, they had a brawl which ended in an exchange of blows.

Kumar allegedly attacked Khan with a small knife and the latter suffered multiple injuries.

A few of the mansion staff informed the police and rushed Khan to the hospital. He was declared ‘brought dead’ at the Government Royapettah Hospital.

The Triplicane police have registered a case of murder. The accused was arrested and produced before a court.
