The United Nations General Assembly, after four hours of heated debate on October 22 on the tense Syrian-Turkish crisis, adjourned for three days to continue further discussion on October 25. Russia backed the Syrian demand for immediate withdrawal of Turkish troops from the frontier and appointment of a fact-finding commission. At the earlier stage of the debate, Turkey’s move to get the debate postponed, pending the result of King Saud’s endeavours, was overruled by the Assembly President, Sir Leslie Munro, and the move made by Paraguay to have the debate postponed sine die was defeated by a single vote.
