3 Indian children die of suspected food poisoning

Dubai: Alleged food poisoning has caused the death of three Indian children and hospitalisation of their parents in Saudi Arabia.

Anas (6), Mariam (3) and Najla (9) died on Saturday at the Qunfuda General Hospital, where they were taken along with their parents after they showed symptoms of food poisoning, an official said.

Muhammad Khalid Iqbal, an engineer with the Saudi Electrical Contracting Company and a native of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, said that his wife, Uzma, and three children consumed food on Saturday night, Arab News reported.

Muhammad ibn Mahfouz, head of press relations at Qunfuda Health Department, said the cause of the deaths was “more likely to be related to some sort of food poisoning.” “Samples of the food consumed were sent to laboratories in Jeddah and Makkah to determine if it was contaminated,” he said. — PTI
