New Chief Secretary for Jammu and Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Senior Jammu and Kashmir cadre IAS officer B.R. Kundal was appointed on Tuesday the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir. He succeeds C. Phonsog, who retires on October 31. The government also appointed two advisers – one to Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and another to the State government.
The decision to appoint Mr. Kundal was taken at a Cabinet meeting, chaired by Mr. Azad, on Tuesday.
Presently holding charge as Financial Commissioner (Home), Mr. Kundal hails from R. S. Pura in the Jammu region. He will be the third Chief Secretary in succession who belongs to the State. His tenure will be for one and half years.
The government also appointed Mr. Phonsog as Adviser to the government after his superannuation on October 31. But his term has not been fixed.
In addition, senior Congress leader and former MP Janak Raj Gupta has been appointed Adviser (Political Affairs) to the Chief Minister and Manzoor Ganai, an advocate, as Adviser (Public Grievances.) They will hold the rank of Minister of State.
