Manmohan is sad, helpless: Jaitley

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Can a “sad Prime Minister” lead a “resurgent nation,” asked Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Arun Jaitley here on Tuesday.

Referring to the Prime Minister’s speech at the recent Hindustan Times leadership summit, where he talked about having to learn to live with disappointments, Mr. Jaitley, in a statement, said that reflected his state of mind — sad and helpless.

His charge was that the United Progressive Alliance government was paralysed by the standoff between it and its supporting parties on the nuclear deal; no significant decision was being taken by the government; and once again, a day ago the Congress said the Prime Minister was not resigning.

Mr. Jaitley said, “A sad and helpless Prime Minister is a cause for national worry.”
