Kathmandu: Accusing Maoists of impeding the Constituent Assembly elections, the Nepali Congress, a key party in the ruling alliance, has said it would not accept the former rebels’ demands seeking immediate declaration of the country a republic and proportional representation (PR) system for the polls. “Even if the NC is to accept the PR system, the Maoists will then demand a new census before the polls are conducted,” it said. He charged that the Maoists were putting forth new demands to impede the elections, which were earlier slated for November 22 but postponed indefinitely. — PTI
