NEW DELHI: Domestic bicycle firm FireFox Bikes Pvt. Ltd. on Tuesday rolled out two high-end bikes — Five Star Intra and Fuel 30 — for adventure enthusiasts from the stable of its U.S. partner as it seeks to increase sales five-fold in the next four years.

“The company expects to increase sales to 60,000 bikes a year by 2011 from 12,000 units now,” FireFox Managing Director, Shiv Inder Singh, told reporters here.

FireFox, which last year tied up with the U.S. firm Trek Bicycle to sell its products in the Indian market, launched two models. The ‘Five Star Intra’ has been priced at Rs. 14,235, while the ‘Fuel 30’ comes with a tag of Rs. 33,156.

The Indian high-end bike market was growing every year and the company planned to bring the best mountaineering bikes first, he said, adding that the company had received a favourable response in the one year of Trek’s operations in India. It expected to double sales this year, he said. The new models would be available at all the 22 outlets of the company. FireFox has 12 exclusive FireFox bikes station franchisees and plans to add six more before the end of this year.

Asked about the total niche bicycle market in India, he said, “The total bicycle market in the country is 12 million, out of which 5-7 per cent is for niche bicycles.” — PTI
