SDAT hockey trials on October 26

Madurai: The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu and Madurai District Hockey Association will jointly conduct selection trials for boys on October 26 and 27 at the Ellisnagar Hockey ground here.

A total of 40 selected players (above-19 years) will be inducted into the Special Development Centre for hockey in Madurai. They will be given daily coaching in the evenings as well as daily allowance and playing materials free of cost.

Dindigul Youth qualifies

At Dindigul, Dindigul Youth Soccer Academy qualified from Tamil Nadu for the under-15 Manchester United Premier cup football tournament (part of u-15 World Cup) defeating Steds Academy (Chennai) 2-0 in the final on Saturday.

Other results:

Semifinals: Dindigul Youth Academy 5 bt NLC Football Academy 4, in tie-breaker; Steds Academy 1 bt Readee Mers Football Academy (Tirunelveli) 0.

Schools basketball

At Kodaikanal, the Kodaikanal International School will organise the 21st annual State-level inter-school basketball tournament on October 26 and 27.

Sixteen schools including defending champion, American College Higher Secondary School (Madurai), St. Paul’s HSS (Salem), ICF HS (Chennai), MSP Solai Nadar HSS (Dindigul) and St. Peter’s HSS (Thanjavur) will participate.

Selection trials

Trials to select the Coimbatore district sub-junior team for the 30th sub-junior inter-district volleyball championship at Villupuram will be held at the VOC Park Corporation Sports Complex courts, Coimbatore, on October 26 at 2.30 p.m.

Players born on or after January 1, 1992, are eligible.

Women’s games

At Madurai, the district-level women’s and district-level rural games meet will be organised by the Madurai unit of SDAT at the MGR Race Course Stadium on October 26.

There is no age limit for the women’s games, but in the rural games, only boys and girls below 16 years can participate.

Kodai open basketball

The Kodaikanal International School will host its annual Kodai open basketball tournament on October 26 and 27.

As many as sixteen schools from the State will be taking part.

American College (Madurai) is the defending champion.
