Monish, Bibin score half-centuries

KOTTAYAM: Monish Jain and Bibin Chatterjee struck half-centuries as Thiruvananthapuram ended the first day’s play against Kollam on a satisfactory note in the South Zone under-17 inter-district cricket tournament at the Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday.

Monish Jain (90) and Bibin Chatterjee (64) laid the foundation for a big total, but Thiruvananthapuram was pegged back by a fine spell by Naizal (four for 30). Thiruvananthapuram scored 292 for eight in its allotted 90 overs and Kollam in reply was 20 for no loss at stumps.

At the Medical College ground, Rahul Jain (70) and Mohd. Aslam (56) enabled Pathanamthitta to post a respectable 216 against Alappuzha.

The scores: Thiruvananthapuram 292 for eight in 90 overs (Monish Jain 90, Bibin Chatterjee 64, Tomy Alexander 44, Naizal four for 30) vs. Kollam 20 for no loss in 6 overs.

Pathanamthitta 216 in 72.3 overs (Rahul Raj 70, Mohd. Aslam 56, Ashwin Sharma three for 68) vs. Alappuzha 9 for two in 8 overs.

Vinod scalps four

Vinod took four wickets for 11 runs as host Cordiant-Tripunithura CC ‘A’ drubbed Sharon CC by 10 wickets and entered the first phase pre-quarterfinals of the 57th Pooja all-India cricket tournament at the Tripunithura Palace Oval in Kottayam on Tuesday.

The scores: Sharon CC (Ernakulam) 66 in 28 overs (Vinod four for 11) lost to Cordiant Tripunithura CC ‘A’ (Ernakulam) 68 for no loss in 7.4 overs. — Principal Correspondent
