Atit Shah triumphs

KOCHI: He keeps in touch with the game just once in three or four months. Still, Coronation Club’s Atit B. Shah did not show any trace of rust as he brushed aside his club-mate Ashok Mahawar 4-0 and regained the Kerala State senior snooker title at the Regional Sports Centre here on Tuesday night.

The 30-year-old spice merchant from Mattancherry was winning the title after a five-year break.

Atit was an early bird at the RSC billiards room this evening and he used the time wisely to find his touch.

“Sorry,” whispered his opponent Ashok as he arrived a little late for the final. The seven-frame trophy-decider, however, did not last long — just about 100 minutes — with only the first frame being close. Atit had breaks of 32 in the second frame and 31 in the next on his way to the title.

The results: Men’s final: Atit B. Shah (Coronation Club, Mattancherry) bt Ashok Mahawar (Coronation) 65-50, 79-5, 80-29, 62-22. Semifinal: Atit Shah bt Mohan George (RSC, Kochi) 54-35, 99-13, 72-61, 69-22. — Principal Correspondent
