PANAJI: Stepping up its campaign against the allotment of government land for Special Economic Zones (SEZs), the People’s Movement Against SEZs on Monday lodged a complaint with the Verna and Maina-Curtorim police stations against three current members and one former member of the Board of Directors of the Goa Industrial Development Corporation. They include chairman Chandrakant Kavlekar and Power Minister Aleixo Sequeira, who was a director when the land was allotted. Spokesman of the People’s Movement Against SEZs Allen Faleiro stated that the criminal complaint was lodged against the four for the alleged irregularities in the allotment of land to the private sector to form SEZs. The group has urged Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to stay all SEZ activity and revoke the allotment of land. Mr. Sequeira and Mr. Kavlekar on Tuesday responded by offering to face any investigation claiming that there was no hanky-panky in the land allotments by the GIDC.
