Livestock, standing crops have been washed away Many roads in Harpanahalli flooded DAVANGERE: Three days of torrential rainfall have led to the collapse of over 600 houses in different parts of Davangere district. Livestock and standing crops have been washed away, and roads, bridges, culverts and other public property have been damaged. The Davangere district administration has estimated the loss at Rs. 3 crore. In Davangere city, over 100 houses collapsed in areas such as K.T.J. Nagar, S.J.M. Colony, S.P.S. Layout, A.K. Colony, Basapura, Neelamana thota and Shamanur. Deputy Commissioner M.B. Dyaberi and Commissioner of the Davangere City Corporation Pranalinga Shivasali, along with senior officials, visited the rain-affected areas in the city on Tuesday. According to official sources, over 450 houses collapsed in Harpanahalli, 60 houses in Harihar and 20 in Honnali. Many roads in Harpanahalli are flooded, and the district administration has diverted traffic. Official teams have been formed to assess the losses. Mr. Dyaberi said the administration would set up “ganji kendras” to provide food to displaced people, many of them from low-lying villages that were flooded. The district administration said steps were being taken to provide compensation for loss of property and crops. There were sufficient funds to conduct relief operations. The Communist Party of India staged a dharna in front of the tahsildar’s office at Harpanahalli demanding compensation for those affected.
