S.S. Bajwa NEW DELHI: Rich tributes were paid to the late Deputy Mayor S.S. Bajwa at a special meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi here on Tuesday. Mr. Bajwa died this past Sunday in Apollo Hospital where he was admitted after suffering a fall at his residence. Leader of the House Subhash Arya described Mr. Bajwa as a man of integrity and simplicity and narrated several anecdotes that revealed the warmth of the former Deputy Mayor. “Mr. Bajwa was humble to the core. Even though he held such a high position, he never wore it on his sleeve and always worked for the benefit of the public,” he said. MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta said Mr. Bajwa was the epitome of hard work and honesty. “He always helped people irrespective of their caste or creed. It was his inherent nature to aid the downtrodden and he never shirked away from the task.” Mr. Gupta proposed to the Mayor the idea of naming a prominent square in the city after the late Deputy Mayor to pay the ideal tribute to him. The Mayor, Arti Mehra, describing Mr. Bajwa’s demise as “tragic and untimely”, said she had worked in close collaboration with him and he had proved himself to be a through and adept party worker. “Whenever I approached him for some work, he went out of his way to accomplish it.” Ms. Mehra offered her condolences to the bereaved family and wished his sons the very best in their careers. Leader of the Opposition J. K. Sharma and Shahdara councillor Jitender Singh Shunty also paid tributes to Mr. Bajwa.
