Young rape victim delivers child

Bangalore: The family of a 14-year-old rape victim, who delivered a girl child at Bowring Hospital on Tuesday, poured out their grievances to Karnataka State Women’s Commission Chairperson Pramila Nesargi.
The girl’s mother, Selvi, a domestic help in Gundappa Park area in Ulsoor, told Ms. Nesargi that 45-year-old Muniyappa had raped her daughter after luring her to a neighbouring school building 10 months ago.
The parents had learnt of the incident only after the girl, a Class 8 student, was five months pregnant.
After the girl’s parents lodged a complaint in May, the Ulsoor police arrested Muniyappa, a car driver.
He is now in judicial custody.
Ms. Nesargi told the family about various Government schemes under which the family can receive help and promised to offer help from the commission as well.
