BHOPAL: The Rs.1500-crore Trident group, with interests in textiles, paper and chemicals sectors, is going to invest Rs.963 crore in setting up an industrial-cum-agro-tech project at Budni near Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. The foundation stone for the 700-acre complex at Budhni will be laid by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Wednesday. Budhni is Mr. Chauhan’s Assembly constituency. Briefing media persons here on Tuesday, Trident group’s Chief Executive Rajeev Gupta said the industrial complex would comprise a spinning-cum-textile unit with 200,000 spindles and 400 looms. The initial spinning facility with 100,800 spindles is scheduled to be commissioned by March 2009, creating direct employment for nearly 3,000 people. He said the group directly acquired land from farmers and it was their commitment to provide employment to at least one person from each affected family. He said there was no politics in selecting the area for setting up the complex. Budhni was chosen as it was well connected and there would be adequate supply of water from the Narmada. The group has a spinning-cum-textile facility comprising 125,952 spindles in Punjab which is the largest in its category in the country. Together with the Budhni facility, the group’s spinning capacity will be 180 tonnes per day placing the company among the top three yarn manufacturers in India. A substantial part of the complex will be devoted to an agro-tech project envisaging the establishment of a model agriculture farm wherein the company will provide on-farm training to the local farmers in modern techniques of production. The area in a radius of 50 km from Budhni in different clusters will be identified for contract farming with a buy-back guarantee to enhance the productivity and profitability of farmers. For this the company plans to establish state-of-the-art facilities for production, post-harvest handling, transportation and processing. The quality produce will be graded, sorted and marketed within the country and abroad after value addition. The area in Budhni is on the banks of the Narmada with ample availability of water. The climatic conditions are ideal for cultivation of number of agricultural crops and the area is well connected by road and rail. The Trident Group has a business portfolio encompassing products ranging from terry-towels, non-terry products, yarn, writing and printing paper to chemicals.
