Shops in Rajasthan towns to be regularised

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: Ending weeks of speculation, the Rajasthan Government has ordered regularisation of commercial activities in the residential colonies of 20 towns despite the higher judiciary’s repeated verdicts ordering closure of shops running on residential premises.

The new policy, applicable to cities with a population of 1 lakh or more, provides for payment of 20 per cent of the residential reserved rates as the regularisation fee as well as an annual fee. The areas where reserved rates are not in force will qualify for 10 per cent of the District Level Committee’s residential rates.

An official release said here on Tuesday that the policy would be implemented in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Bikaner, Ajmer, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Alwar, Sriganganagar, Bharatpur, Pali, Sikar, Tonk, Hanumangarh, Beawar, Kishangarh, Sawai Madhopur, Churu, Jhunjhunu and Gangapur City.

No commercial activities

It said commercial activities would not be permitted in the restricted areas, such as archaeological sites, heritage buildings and places of tourist interest and historical importance. Shops constructed within 50 metres from the road junction will also not qualify for regularisation.

The new policy provides for creation of a buffer zone in front of parks, lakefronts, stadiums and auditoriums.

Activities such as trade in inflammable and explosive materials, automobile servicing, food processing, dyeing and printing, warehousing, scrap selling and treatment of contagious diseases will not be regularised.

The professionals who will be allowed to operate in 25 per cent of the covered area of a residential building include doctors, lawyers, architects, town planners, engineers, company secretaries, chartered accountants, cost and work accountants, accredited journalists and professional consultants.
