COIMBATORE: Spice Jet, a low-cost carrier, will begin flight services from here in four sectors from October 25. Kamal Hingorani, vice-president, Sales and Marketing, Spice Jet, said Coimbatore would be the 17th destination in the Spice Jet network. Direct flights would be operated from here to Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai. The flight to New Delhi would run through Hyderabad. He said Coimbatore was an important destination in terms of tourism and business. The two-and-half-year-old airliner had consolidated its position in the north and the west, he said, and was now trying to streamline its operations to the cities in the south. The carrier was also looking at turning Coimbatore into a hub for its operations. Beginning Thursday, for one month, Spice Jet would offer tickets at an introductory price of Rs. 500 for travel from Coimbatore to Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad, while tickets to New Delhi would cost Rs. 999, he said. Spice Jet flight SG 403 would leave Coimbatore at 7.55 a.m. and reach Chennai at 8.40 a.m. Flight SG 404 would depart from Chennai at 9.35 a.m. and reach Coimbatore at 10.40 a.m. Flight SG 767 would leave Chennai at 6.30 p.m. and arrive at Coimbatore at 7.30 p.m. and Flight SG 768 leave Coimbatore at 8.00 p.m. and reach Chennai at 9.10 am. Flight SG 234 would depart from Coimbatore at 11.10 a.m. and reach New Delhi at 3.10 p.m. It would land at Hyderabad, en route, at 12.30 p.m. Flight SG 237 would leave New Delhi at 5.10 p.m. and reach Coimbatore at 9.10 p.m. after landing at Hyderabad at 7.50 p.m. Flight SG 108 would leave Coimbatore at 9.40 p.m. and reach Mumbai at 11.15 p.m. while Flight SG 103 would depart Mumbai at 5.55 a.m. and arrive at Coimbatore at 7.25 a.m. At present, Spice Jet was operating its services with 16 Boeing 837-800 aircraft with 189 seats. It plans to augment its fleet with eight more aircraft before 2008, including two-three Boeing 739-900 aircraft with 212 seats.
