Constable found dead

Tirupur: M. Thangaraj (24) of Bhavani, a constable attached to the Kovaipudur IVth battalion of the Tamil Nadu Special Police, was found dead with bullet injuries at the Tirupur bus stand on Tuesday.

It is learnt that the constable who was on bandobust duty had shot himself to death with a self-loading rifle. The bullet had pierced through his jaws and head. Top police officials rushed to Tirupur and the body was removed to the Tirupur GH.

IG reviews

The Inspector-General of Police, Economic Offences Wing (Idol Wing and Temple Protection), Mithileshkumar Jha, on Tuesday held a meeting to review the security arrangements at the temples in and around Coimbatore.

He held discussions with police officers on the preparedness at temples to prevent theft of idols, jewellery and other valuables. Mr. Jha urged the authorities to ensure installation of safe vaults and burglar alarms to prevent thefts.
