New bus depot for Musheerabad

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Construction of the long-pending Musheerabad-II bus depot will commence by November. With the initiation of the new depot, maintenance of buses will further improve and dearth of parking space for APSRTC buses in twin cities will come down to a large extent, claim corporation authorities.

The Corporation is proposing to construct the new depot in its vacant land behind Bus Bhavan in Musheerabad in 5.5 acres at an estimated cost of Rs. 2 crore, said a senior official.

The depot will comprise garages, oil filling station, washing station and other facilities which will help in maintenance of 60-80 buses every year. “Tenders will be floated by this month-end and construction will be completed within 10 months from the date of commencement,” said the official.

Construction of new bus depots is necessitated due to congestion in the existing 21 depots which are housing nearly 2,930 buses. “With the establishment of new depots, more buses can be maintained and operated. It will ensure better connectivity between different areas,” adds another official.

Last year the RTC in its board meeting decided to construct eight new depots, including an exclusive bus depot for the 75-odd Volvo buses of the RTC at Gowliguda.

The corporation owns land at Musheerabad, Hayathnagar, Bandlaguda and Shamirpet. Identification of Government land for depots at Borabanda, and Turkayamjal is completed.

“Mobilisation of funds for constructing depots at Hayathnagar, Bandlaguda and Shamirpet is underway and works can be expected to commence next year,” officials say.
