PROTEST: Lawyers on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of the Tirupur North Police Station seeking action against a woman police sub-inspector for the alleged assault on one of their colleagues recently
Tirupur: Demanding suspension of a woman police sub-inspector for assaulting lawyer Mohankumar, Tirupur lawyers on Tuesday held a demonstration.
The lawyers have planned a series of protests.
Mohankumar was allegedly assaulted by a bus crew and the sub-inspector on October 16 at the old bus stand in the hosiery town.
Demonstration
Tirupur Advocates Association and Bar Association members gathered in front of the revenue divisional officer’s office and staged a demonstration.
Later, the demonstration venue was shifted to the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police N. Maninvannan.
Talks
Mr. Maninvannan held talks with the lawyers who demanded suspension of the sub-inspector and legal action on the case registered in connection with the assault.
He sought two days’ time for responding to their demands.
Initiate action
Bar Association and Advocates Association office-bearers P. Easwaramurthy and N. Balasubramanian, who held a meeting with the lawyers, said they would wait for the police to initiate action till 10 a.m. on Wednesday failing which the lawyers have planned to continue their court boycott and resort to all democratic forms of agitations.
