Notices against RFC suspended

Legal Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Justice V. Eswaraiah of the High Court, on Tuesday, suspended operation of notices issued by the Ranga Reddy District Panchayat Officer (DPO) seeking explanation why 29 buildings in Ramoji Film City cannot be closed as they are allegedly constructed illegally. These buildings include the nerve centre of 12 regional channels of ETV.

It may be recalled that the DPO had issued notices seeking explanation as to how these buildings were constructed without statutory and technical clearance.

The notices were served on Usha Kiran Movies, Dolphin Hotels and other firms asking them to submit explanation within seven days failing which these buildings could be closed.

Writ petitions were filed complaining that these actions were vindictive in nature. The court was informed that the authorities were in a hurry to paralyse Ramoji Film City.

The Government Pleader for Panchayat Raj Department contended that it was only a show-cause notice and that no writ petition was filed. D. Prakash Reddy, senior counsel, appearing for petitioner said the notices were vague. The Judge felt that a comprehensive counter affidavit was necessary and granted two weeks time to the Government to file the counter affidavit before suspending the operation of notices.
