KOLKATA: Investigations by a team of officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the death of computer graphics teacher, Rizwanur Rahman, took a major step forward after his wife Priyanka was questioned at an undisclosed place early on Tuesday. “She has given details of the incident [involving the events leading to Rahman’s death],” Arun Kumar, Joint Director, CBI, who is leading the team said. Ms. Todi was questioned at a “third place,” suggesting that the interrogations were carried out neither at her father, Ashok Todi’s residence where she had been put up for the past few days nor at the CBI’s local office. The questioning lasted more than two hours. Priyanka’s mother was also questioned separately, a CBI official added. The body of Rahman was found lying by the side of the railway track near here on September 21. Asked if the CBI had come close to determining whether the death was a case of homicide or suicide, he said it was too early to say. “We are looking into all the aspects.” None had so far been detained in connection with the case, Mr. Kumar said. The CBI had registered a case of murder under Section 302 as well as cases under Sections 506 and 120[B] against Mr. Todi and some others on the basis of a first information report filed by the members of Rahman’s family. The agency, which started its investigations on October 20 following an interim order of the Calcutta High Court a few days earlier directing it to probe the death, also summoned for questioning a police official. Five senior police officials including the Police Commissioner were removed from their posts on October 17 in the wake of suspicions of their involvement in the events leading to Rahman’s death.
