More rattles Merchant XI

MUMBAI: Vijay Merchant XI, opting to bat against Khandu Rangnekar XI on the first day of the four-day 22nd Sportstar Trophy u-19 MCA selection trial tournament, found medium-pacer Swapnil More (four for 36) hot to handle and slipped to 66 for eight at the Karnataka SA ground on Tuesday.

But Pratik Denge (37, 99b, 5 x 4) along with tail-enders Pratik Naik (13) and Sourab Netravalkar (10 n.o.) lifted the team to 106 in 42.2 overs.

Careful batting

At stumps, Rangnekar XI was 101 for three, after 35 overs of careful batting, with openers Chandrasekhar Thate (50, 80b) and Rohan Kerkar (31 n.o., 79b,) making their presence felt.

In another final round match at Elf Vengsarkar Academy Oval, which started after lunch due to a wet wicket, Vijay Manjrekar XI scored 140 for four after electing to bat.

Opener Siddhesh Ramani (35, 96b, 5 x 4) and Gaurav Chavan (38 n.o., 51b, 5 x 4, 1 x 6) were among the runs against Dattu Phadkar XI, for whom left-arm medium-pacer Balkrishna Shirke took two for 35.

The scores: Vijay Merchant XI 106 in 42.2 overs (Pratik Denge 37, Swapnil More four for 36) vs. Khandu Rangnekar XI 101 for three in 35 overs (C. Thate 50, R. Kerkar 31 batting).
