Kakinada: The Railways are no exception to the impact of the multi-national companies with many of its employees, especially the technical staff opting to join them getting lured by the fat salaries and perks, according to P. Swamy Charan, divisional secretary, South Central Railway Mazdoor Union, Vijayawada division. “Already the exodus started in signals wing of the SCR zone with around 50 designers quitting the posts to join multi-nationals. The pay packet of Rs.1 lakh per month indeed more attractive. Similarly two dozens of officers from the IRTS have given up their jobs and opted multinational companies services. It is high time the sixth pay commission to award reasonably attractive salaries to railway employees so as to avoid the mass exodus,” said Swamy Charan while talking to The Hindu here on Tuesday. In support of his argument, he cited the case of Sambireddy, ADRM, Vijayawada, who joined the multi-national company in New Delhi on yearly package of Rs.48 lakhs. The Railway HMS Union leader, who is here as a part of the last leg of his campaign for the union elections to be held on November 26, 27 and 28 for according recognition at divisional level, said that they were demanding the minimum wages of Rs. 11,000 per month to the lowest level employee. He said the union made it clear in its representation to the sixth pay commission on the minimum wages and confident of the same may be approved.
