Foetus found off Queen’s Road

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Just as the uproar over the discovery of seven foetuses in a garbage dump near Jakkarayanakere in August seemed to have died down, the ghosts of the past have come calling again.

A foetus was found dumped in a corner of a bylane off Queen’s Road in Shivajinagar police station limits at around 3 p.m. here on Tuesday. According to the police, the foetus, just about five inches long and appearing around three months old was noticed by passers by who alerted the police.

The foetus has been sent to the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital for examination and it has not yet been ascertained whether it is male or female.

When contacted, Premila Nesargi, Chairperson, Karnataka State Women’s Commission told The Hindu that it was time a detailed enquiry into such incidents was conducted. “This is not the first time that foetuses have been found dumped at various places. There are many doctors and medical staff who are doing illegal abortions and there seems to be no check on them. The Governor should take up this issue seriously and bring in strict measures to curb illegal abortions and female foeticide,” Ms. Nesargi said.

The discovery of seven foetuses along with bio-medical waste at a dump yard in Srirampuram police station limits in August had raised a scare of female foeticide in the city.
