Boy run over by car

NEW DELHI: A two-and-a-half-year-old boy was run over by a Toyota Innova car on Bangla Sahib Road here in the early hours of Tuesday. The car driver has been arrested.

According to the police, the accident took place around 1 a.m. when Mayank and his parents were on their way to their Paharganj home in a Maruti Wagon-R car. They were nearing the traffic signal on Bangla Sahib Road when the Toyota Innova coming from the opposite side hit the vehicle.

The Wagon-R overturned under the impact of the collision and Mayank, who was sitting on the rear seat, was thrown out of the car window. The Innova driver allegedly backed the vehicle in a hurry and ended up running over Mayank. While Mayank died on the spot, the driver sped away. Mayank’s father Rohit Aroraand his mother Nisha escaped with minor injuries. Based on the complaint lodged by Rohitthe Mandir Marg police registered a case and arrested the Innova driver Shiv Om later.
