BANGALORE: Thieves made away with a purse containing gold jewellery worth Rs. 1.6 lakh from a woman commuter’s handbag while she was boarding a crowded BMTC bus at the Kempegowda bus station on Monday afternoon. The police said Vasantha Kantharaj came to Bangalore from Hassan. While she was boarding a BMTC bus bound for Uttarahalli (route number 210A) at platform 12, the thieves picked her purse from the handbag. The Upparpet police have registered a case. BurgledBurglars struck at a software engineer’s house in Banaswadi police station limits on Monday and looted gold ornaments worth Rs. 60,000. The police said the theft took place at Praveen’s house in Kalyananagar when he and his wife, also a software engineer, had gone to work. The incident came to light after they returned home in the evening. The Banaswadi police have registered a case. In another incident, thieves broke open the rolling shutters of a textile showroom in Gandhinagar and made away with Rs. 50,000 cash. The police said the theft came to light on Tuesday morning when the employees came to work. The showroom, situated near Gubbi Veeranna Ranga Mandira, had remained closed since Sunday night. The Upparpet police have registered a case. SuicideAdarsh (26) committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his sister’s house on 4th Cross, 4th Stage, Nandini Layout on Monday night. The police said Adarsh, a college dropout and native of Chikmagalur, had come here to pursue a career in painting and drawing. As he could not get a suitable job, he allegedly ended his life. The Nandini Layout police have registered a case. Krishna (30) committed suicide by jumping into the Doddakamanahalli Tank on Bannerghatta Road on Monday evening. The police said Krishna, a resident of Doddakamanhalli, was an epilepsy patient. The Hulimavu police have registered a case. RecoveredThe Mahadevapura police have arrested four Nepali Gorkhas on charges of burglary and recovered gold and diamond ornaments and three mobile phones, in all worth about Rs. 2 lakh from them. The police gave their names as Bijay Arjun Khadka (29), Kitya Bhahdur Khadka (36), Suresh Khadka (40) and Sunil Bhahdur Khadka (23). The accused had burgled six houses in Koramangala, Jayanagar, Jeevanbimanagar and Mahadevapura police station limits, the police said.
