Full flow: RTC buses witness heavy rush of passengers after Dasara festival. ADILABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation’s (APSRTC), Adilabad region reaped rich returns of more than Rs. 20 lakh during the Dasara festival season due to heavy demand for its services on Adilabad-Hyderabad route. The earnings mopped through running over 200 specials to Hyderabad-mainly from Adilabad, Nirmal and Mancherial depots-is considered to be a fabulous, considering it was on a single route in such a short period. “Unlike the previous years, we were left with the handsome profits because we logged over 80 per cent occupancy rate on an average. Unusually, specials were full even on the return route”, said Regional Manager R. Nagaraju. “Another reason for being happy is that we ran the specials charging normal fares in contrast to the previous years”, he added. The festival rush was because a lot of students from the district study in Hyderabad and a large number of professionals hailing from this district are employed there. The rather longish Dasara vacation makes them scurry towards home. Expansion of servicesThat there are happy days ahead for the RTC in this region is indicated from the proposed expansion of its services on both the longer routes including the inter-State ones and shorter intra district services. Clearance for the 34 newly proposed services is expected by summer next year. Two air-conditioned Meghdoot Hitec services on the Adilabad- Hyderabad route that will be inducted shortly. Newly proposed inter-State services include one bus on Bhainsa- Mahore route and others on Adilabad-Nagpur, Adilabad-Chandrapur and Adilabad-Wani routes, the regional manager said. “Buses are also proposed to be run between pilgrim centres in and around the district, ” he added.
