KOCHI: A workshop on ‘Science communication through folk media’ began at the National Institute of Oceanography hall here on Wednesday with the aim of training science writers and folk artistes in writing scripts on science. The five-day residential workshop was inaugurated by Manoj Patairiya, director, National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology. Organised by the Swadeshi Science Movement, in association with the NCSTC, the workshop intends to provide a fillip to popularisation of science through folk media in the State, where , the coverage of science through print and electronic media remains low. Besides identifying talented science communicators, the workshop will help prepare scripts to communicate through plays, street plays, songs, and folklore.
