Sankeerthana Yatra peaceful

Correspondent

CHIKMAGALUR: The Datta Sankeerthana Yatra organised by the Sangh Parivar in connection with the Dattamala Abhiyan was conducted peacefully in Chikmagalur on Wednesday.

About a thousand saffron clad devotees, including women, participated in the procession which began from the Kamadhenu Ganapathi temple and concluded in the Bolarameshwara temple after passing through Basavanahalli and I.G. Road.

The yatra was relatively quiet when compared with the Shoba Yatra conducted on the eve of Datta Jayanti in December.

There were no folk artistes and some of the devotees sang bhajans.

A decorated idol of Dattareya accompanied the procession. Elaborate security arrangements had been made.

Hundreds of Sri Rama Sene activists led by Pramod Muthalik, president of the State unit of the Rashtriya Hindu Sene, and Swamy Atmanandaji of Bangalore visited Bababudangiri and had a darshan of the Datta padukas in the hilltop shrine.

Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Muthalik said the Bababudangiri-Datta Peeta controversy should be settled by December this year.

He reiterated that the government should fulfil their demands.
