JAIPUR: Rajasthan has called upon the Centre to supply only indigenous food grain instead of imported wheat to the State as part of various schemes under the Targeted Public Distribution System, saying the quality of imported food grain is substandard and has led to public resentment. Letter to PawarIn a letter addressed to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Kirorilal Meena said Rajasthan had been receiving imported wheat of small size and red colour, along with the indigenous food grain, for the past one year. Mr. Meena said the Food Corporation of India was supplying the wheat of inferior quality despite being apprised of the large number of complaints received in this regard. “The people of the State resent being given this wheat and are not ready to accept it,” he said. The Minister, pointing out that the Centre was likely to release the same imported wheat along with the indigenous food grain this year as well, requested Mr. Pawar to direct the FCI to supply only indigenous wheat to the State so as to redress the grievance of people at large.
