Puts a condition for providing land to Institute of Indian Foundry to set up cluster of modern foundries in Medak Sangareddy: The Medak district administration in principle agreed to provide land to the Institute of Indian Foundry men to set up a cluster of modern foundries in the district, if the cluster promises to absorb local unemployed youth. The representatives of the institute, who met district Collector B. Venkatesam here on Wednesday, requested him to allocate 200 acres of land in Jinnaram mandal of the district. With a total investment of Rs. 600 crore, the cluster would accommodate 150 modern foundries that could provide direct and indirect employment to at least 63,000 as per the estimations of the institute. The comparatively less polluting cluster of modern foundries would need 30,000 unskilled and equal number of skilled workers. It is expected that the ancillary and transportation industries would accommodate another 2,200 men. Punitive clauseThe district, which houses several prominent industries in the bordering mandals of Hyderabad has decided to urge the newly arriving industries to employ certain percentage of local talent even before they set their shop here. Earlier no such clause used to be mentioned in the memorandum of understanding or agreement. Speaking to The Hindu, the Collector said that the industries that utilise the land and water of the area should do something in return to the local community. He said that he would grant the land for the modern foundry if the institute assures in writing that it would absorb the local unemployed. He said that he is ready to give away land in Jinnaram if they stick to the promise. He said that a punitive clause like a fine or cancellation of the lease should be entered into the agreement. Free trainingThe Collector assured the new industries that the district would provide free training to the unemployed youth if the concerned unit provides a time-bound requirement programme.
