Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Home and Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan escaped unhurt after the official car in which he was travelling met with a road accident at Thycaud, one-and-a-half km from Venjaramood on the Main Central Road in the district on Wednesday.

According to the rural police, the accident took place around 2.50 p.m. when the Minister was returning to the capital city after visiting a private medical college hospital. An Ambassador car that was proceeding from Thiruvananthapuram to Pathanamthitta swerved to the right and hit the official car of the Minister. The Minister’s car had a pilot vehicle led by the Circle Inspector, Attingal, Rajendran in the front and an escort vehicle in the rear. According to the police, both the cars were damaged and the right wheel of the official car got punctured.

Later, the Minister continued the journey in the escort car to the capital. Mr. Balakrishnan, who later attended a discussion on the ‘Future prospects of Kerala Tourism’ at the Government Guest House, Thycaud, said it was a ‘miraculous’ escape.

The occupants of the other car, Joshua, his wife Somu and their children and the driver, K. V. Thomas escaped unhurt. The family was returning after proceeding to the Passport office. The Venjaramood police have registered a case for rash and negligent driving against the driver Thomas.
