Letters to the Editor
The BJP’s assertion that a “sad and helpless” Prime Minister is a cause for national worry in the context of the standoff between the Congress and the Left parties on the nuclear deal is amusing. Have we not seen a worse scenario when, as Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was reduced to a helpless spectator to the Gujarat carnage? It is really pathetic that all political parties barring the UPA constituents have made the nuclear deal a subject of competitive politics. Navneet Dhawan, New Delhi
Arun Jaitley’s jibe about Dr. Singh comes after the abject spectacle of Narendra Modi dithering and in inglorious retreat after a truly sad and helpless bout with the media. He failed not only to defend himself but also to express himself convincingly. The ‘strong man’ of Gujarat and the BJP’s future prime ministerial candidate is actually a very weak human being. Vasantha Surya, Chennai
