Inter-school football tournament

Dindigul: The fifth annual State-level inter-school football tournament organised jointly by SMBM Matriculation HSS and DDFA will get underway here on October 26. Eight teams, including YMCA MHSS (Chennai), Kaja Miyan HSS (Tiruchi), NLC Boys HSS (Neyveli) and American College HSS (Madurai) are participating.

Carrom tournament

The Madurai District Carrom Association will organise a district-level golden jubilee carrom tournament for boys and girls in age-group and for men and women as part of its golden jubilee celebrations from October 26 to 28 at Victoria Edward Hall in Madurai. Big win for Lawrence

A brilliant effort by C. Harun (five for four) enabled Lawrence School to score a 10-wicket win over Breeks AISS in the NDCA under-15 inter-school cricket tournament for the Selma Rolling Trophy at the JSS grounds at Udhagamandalam on Tuesday.

After bundling out its opponent for 73, Lawrence scored the required runs in just 6.1 overs.

The scores: Breeks AISS 73 (C. Harun five for four) lost to Lawrence 75 for no loss in 6.1 overs; Stanes HSS 117 for five in 20 overs bt Riverside Public 96. (Match reduced to 20 overs a side due to rain).

Open chess tournament

Rathnam Chess Academy, in association with Jaycees junior wing will organise a district-level open chess tournament for boys and girls (U-15, U-10, U-8) on the Jaycees MHSS campus, Sivakasi on October 28.

Rain plays spoilsport

The NDFA-Sterling Biotech first division football league matches at the HADP Open Air Stadium in Udhagamandalam could not be played due to rain.

Students Sr. CC wins

At Salem, Students Senior Cricket Club posted a three-wicket win over KPSC Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-SDCA first division cricket league at the Neelambal School grounds recently.

The scores: First division:

KPSC CC 190 in 42 overs (A. Mohan 42, S. Mouli four for 38) lost to Students Sr. CC 191 for seven in 39.4 overs (Saravanan 42).

Second division:

Gandhiji CC 148 in 38 overs bt City Boys CC 59.

Third division: Talented CC 137 in 40 overs bt GEC CC 70 (Shanmugam five for 30, Prabhu four for 25); SISCOL CC 205 in 40 overs (S. Prabhakar 67) vs. Premier CC (match abandoned due to rain); Montfort CC 130 in 33 overs lost to Youngstar CC 131 for three in 18.5 overs (Jayaseelan 50 not out).
