Billiards & Snooker
Mohan George. KOCHI: Mohan George played a patient waiting game and retained the men’s title in the Kerala State senior billiards championship at the Regional Sports Centre here on Wednesday evening. The 47-year-old businessman, a former junior national snooker champion and billiards runner-up, defeated the seasoned A.R. Azeem 499-307 in the two-hour final. Mohan, from the host club RSC, was trailing Azeem in the first half hour, but he soon upped a gear, raced to hundred-point lead and never looked back. The host’s Akhil Johnson had bagged a double earlier, taking the junior boys’ billiards and snooker trophies, while Rosie Sam, a newcomer, walked away with the ladies billiards crown. M.F. Mundaden, the Kerala State Billiards Association President, presided over the closing function while Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham gave away the prizes. The results (finals): Billiards: Men: Mohan George (RSC, Kochi) bt A.R. Azeem (Rama Varma Club, Ekm) 499-307. Women: Rosie Sam (RSC) bt Yasmin Thomas (RSC) 47-42. Junior boys: Akhil Johnson (RSC) bt Samor Joseph (RSC) 86-42. Snooker: Junior boys: Akhil Johnson bt Taral Shah (Lotus Club, Ekm) 62-36, 70-43. — Principal Correspondent
