HYDERABAD: Just take a look at those shopping for jewellery. Matching with the sheen of gold, diamond and the precious stone-studded jewellery they are perusing, is the expression of joy radiating through their countenance.

For buying jewellery is mostly associated with celebrating a memorable and auspicious occasion. It doubles up as an irresistible investment option too. “That explains the Hyderabadis’ love for jewellery -- to possess, flaunt and hand it down the generation,” Farah Khan, well-known jewellery designer who unveiled her festive collection exclusively at Meena Jewellers, Begumpet, on Wednesday told The Hindu.

Farah Khan’s uncut and cut diamond jewellery showcased in a special fashion show comprised designs that are stunning, beautiful, stylishly sensuous and also classic. “In this festive collection, I added a lot of colour to go with diamonds in the form of emeralds, rubies, rubalites (deep pink), amethyst and south sea pearls,” she says.

“Jewellery is a luxury and it should appeal to the visual senses. Hence, I create my designs as objects of art, transforming an inanimate thought inspired from nature, architecture, even from drapes, into an animated piece,” says Farah.

Farah, who supplies her designer collection to Meena Jewellers in Hyderabad and Dubai showrooms in Mumbai, Delhi, apart from her own clients, says spending on diamond jewellery has gone up in Hyderabad as elsewhere. Even the middle class does not mind spending Rs. 2 lakh on a piece these days as against Rs. 50,000 a few years ago.

Later, models adorned with exquisite diamond-studded jewellery hdainty chains in enchanting designs showcased Farah Khan’s festive collection.

Union Minister T. Subbarami Reddy, Bollywood film star Priyanka Chopra complimented Farah Khan for the fabulous collection.
