Teachers’ federation favours change in name of sex education

HYDERABAD: The AP United Teachers’ Federation on Wednesday suggested to the Parliamentary committee headed by M. Venkaiah Naidu to change the nomenclature of sex education as ‘adolescence education’, since it was still inconvenient to describe it so. In a representation to the committee which is studying the implementation of sex/adolescent education in schools, the federation leaders made several suggestionsincluding making changes in the CBSC syllabus with less stress on figures to illustrate sex education as women teachers in co-education schools were experiencing embarrassment.

They wanted only biological science teachers to be teach topics related to sex and orientation classes be run for the in-service teachers. Leaders of the AP State

Teachers’ Union urged the panel to conduct separate special classes for parents of students to create awareness among them.
