‘CDP should be reviewed’

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The 111 villages now part of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike are not included in the City Development Plan prepared under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and therefore must be reviewed, said P.R. Ramesh, former Mayor of Bangalore.

Mr. Ramesh told presspersons here on Wednesday that a task force must be appointed to review the development works needed in the villages which form 240 sq km of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s 796 sq km.

“The task force is necessary in the absence of an elected council,” he said.

Since the Centre was not releasing funds in the absence of an elected council in the civic body (a mandatory condition for being eligible for funds under JNNURM), Mr. Ramesh requested Governor Rameshwar Thakur to direct the State Election Commission to conduct elections to the BBMP Councilsoon.
