Showcasing her collection: Bangladeshi designer Bibi Russell (second from right) with models at ‘The India Men’s Fashion Fair 2007’ in Bangalore on Wednesday. BANGALORE: It was heralded as an event to promote men’s wear. But as it turned out, not only men’s, but also women’s wear took the share of promotion. Apart from women models, men at the “India Men’s Fashion Fair” wore costumes, supposedly inspired by women. The much-awaited fashion event by Prasad Bidapa that began in the city on Wednesday had varied colours and patterns that caught the attention of the audience. Designer Rohit Bal gave a perfect end to the day’s programme with his exquisite collection of blue and white “Siyahi” featuring Banasari brocade sherwanis. The event had a delayed start and was inaugurated by Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar. Mr. Bidapa, who wore an unusual white dhoti and kudhta, first called upon young designer Asif Shah. Mr. Shah showed his collection of suits, trousers and sherwanis that had different tones of dark. Then followed “Sapne Bunte Haat collection” of Bangladeshi fashion designer Bibi Russell. With the background of Bengali songs, Ms. Russell presented various types of cotton costumes that reflected her taste for Rajasthan designs. Designer-duo David Abraham and Thakore presented suits and trousers in white and also combinations black and white and red. In his first outing, young designer Mohammed Omair of Bangalore presented his collection of black suits and trousers. Designer Samant Chauhan presented a variety to his collection by featuring men in white shirts and frocks. Allen Solly presented “Solly youth” collection featuring new range of cool and stylish merchandise. Atul Malhotra “Laboratory” collection featured dresses that had shades of beach wear.
