Painting to capture the divine

A painting from the exhibition ‘Devotees of Krishna’

A weeklong exhibition of paintings by P.K. Roy titled ‘Devotees of Krishna’ has been organised at Lalit Kala Akademi in the Capital beginning this Saturday. Roy is an art teacher at J.N.V. Nagina in Mewat.

According to Roy, the purpose of the Hare Krishna movement is to bring man back to his original state of consciousness. “All living entities are part and parcel of Krishna. There are two kinds of entities—the moving, such as human beings a nd animals, and the non-moving, such as the trees and the mountains. All material nature is controlled by the supreme controller Krishna.”

By means of this exhibition, Roy will attempt to capture the essence of a devotee in prayer as it is his belief that one can attain a perfect life only through devotional service.

“The important point is that we have to try to learn how to love Krishna. Love begins with this give-and-take relationship. One can attain perfection by just taking to Krishna consciousness that transcends all other qualifications,” he said.

“One can attain perfection by service through ‘sravanam’ and ‘kirtanam’. The next process is ‘smaranam’, which means to always remembering Krishna. It is only after all these steps that one becomes a real devotee,” he added. It is Roy’s sincere attempt to bind all followers of Krishna through his paintings.
