‘Irregularities’ in housing scheme

Botsa’s claim on housing termed misleading

Party’s 36 teams conduct a survey

VIZIANAGARAM: The CPI (M) has stated that it found several irregularities in housing, pensions, assigned lands and NREGP schemes during its padayatra from October 8 to 19 in 1,200 villages and 124 wards in the district.

Party secretary M. Krishna Murty told a press conference on Thursday that 36 teams of the party conducted a survey on the government’s claim and found that the poor were denied houses in a majority of the model villages. At the same time, Congress cadres having pucca houses were sanctioned houses on benami names, he said.

Terming Housing Minister Botsa Satyanarayana’s claim as misleading, he dared him for a debate on the irregularities.

Similarly, pensions were sanctioned to the ineligible, he alleged. With regard to assigned lands, he said the party obtained lists from Tehsildar offices and compared it with the beneficiaries. It found that 90 per cent of the lands were not in possession of original assignees, he said and added that the administration had already prepared a list of assigned, poramboke and D-patta lands in March itself but it was not ready to make it public.

Job scheme

On the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme, Mr. Krishna Murty said that not even 10 per cent of the identified were provided 100 days of work. At Pedduru village in Garugubilli mandal, Rs. 5 lakhs was drawn without executing bund strengthening work of a tank. There was no action on their demand for a probe into the irregularities even after a memorandum was submitted to the Collector a month ago, he said. The party, along with the CPI, would stage a dharna at the Collectorate on October 29 on the irregularities, Mr. Krishna Murty said.
